Mumbai attacks... Hopes for the future...

Such things happen in big cities.....really!!??
Cool and composed politicians telling how shocked they are..
A Bollywood director going in with the Chief Minister to see the remains of the ravaged Taj...
Intelligence reports ignored...
Ignorant political leaders telling non-marathis to leave Mumbai... Where are they now?
Opposition parties blaming the government for all that happened..
Political leaders contempt the attack in Mumbai... Thanks.. And..??

NSG commandos going about their duty with no fuss and telling they will always be there to protect us...
Commandos from all over India...north..south..everywhere..fighting and putting their lives on the line to save as many lives as possible..
Hotel staff sacrificing their lives to save guests....
Wife of a hero who lost his life in battle with the terrorists not willing to take compensation from the government..

Two very different sides of India. The good and the bad side of India.

Is India devoid of good leaders? Leaders who can think on their feet...think ahead...think for the welfare of the people...and most importantly leaders with conscience...
Will it hurt India to get young vibrant leaders? People with feelings. People who get angry once in a while seeing the tears of those who lost their friends and loved ones. I guess it is too much to ask for. Will we ever get young leaders to run our country? Will India ever come to a point where we can trust the Government to keep us safe? So many similar questions. Sadly, the answer to most of them is a resounding "NO!". But I hope I am proved wrong.

I am not going to say anything about the pitiful behaviour of the opposition party because I don't think they have enough goodness in their hearts to understand the gravity of the situation in Mumbai. I hope the news about the death of hundreds of Indians in Mumbai did not disturb their campaigns for the upcoming elections. I am sure it didn't.

NDTV..."Enough is enough"... watching NDTV, I was wondering how it would be if we had somebody with the passion of Barkha Dutt run our Government. Wonder how it would be if somebody like her played a small part in the major issues of our country.. Will that be so bad? I will never know. Again, I hope I am proved wrong.

There are so many hero stories where ordinary people who work hard for their daily bread save dozens of lives. I hope those stories are not forgotten. I hope they are not seen as ordinary people anymore. As of now they are extraordinary people. There are so many lessons to be learned from these incidents. I hope they are learned. If at all anything good comes out of all this, I hope they are not forgotten.

I got my voters ID just before I left India. I am now a registered voter. But I wonder if anything good will ever come out of my vote. Will politics in India ever change and will my single vote play a role to make sure it does? Of course not. But I have faith in the people of India. We will not give up and let our politicians get publicity out of this disaster and use it for their campaigns. We will make sure the Government learn its lessons. We cannot give up. We must not give up.

Maybe this was a wake up call, but at the expense of so many lives? Not really.
Was it so difficult to avoid this disaster even with intelligence information twenty four hours before the incident? Not really.
Can the people of India be sure that this will never happen again? Not really.

I don't know what the Government plans to do about what happened. Actually, I don't care what they do. I don't care if the Home Minister resigns. Or if the Chief minister is replaced. I don't care who is made the scape goat. All India wants to see are actions. We don't care how it's done. We don't care if half the government is fired for its incompetence. Too many innocent lives were taken. Too little was done.

I salute the brave NSG commandos, the army, the police, the fire fighters, the doctors, the hotel staff, the railway station announcers....all the men and women who saved innocent lives.
I pray to God to give strength to people all over the world who lost their loved ones in this disaster.

Finally, I hope the terrorists and all the people involved in helping them burn in hell.
